A Note for Loved Ones in Hard Moments
A Joy Seed Practice
Oh my dear ones. First of all, I love you. I love your tired ways and your trying ways. I love the prayers that you hold and the prayers that you send. I love the ways you see your body and its needs. I love the ways you see the needs of the other bodies around you. This is a lot. COVID, weather, sleeplessness – they all take their toll, and it is so real. Privilege is real, and the struggles are real and valid. Our plans can and will change and you can feel guilt, but you can also name that guilt as a feeling and know feelings change. It is okay.
You are part of the flowing water of this world. Your body is mostly water, and we will rise and fall – we were designed to – menstruation is an indicator of that rhythm. Find music that can support your waves. Make space to feel in the midst. Dance, sway, tap your feet – give your body excuses to feel itself. This is part of our grounding. You are tired. That’s allowed. Slow when you can. Savor the flavors, the colors, the art and nature around you, the textures of your chairs, these all help hold you.
Winter brings its own permission slip – you’re allowed a grade C season. Some things can sit, wait for another season, and when you feel even a little hint of a smile – give yourself permission to pause – lean into it. Try to stretch it to your toes. Savor it as long and deep as you can. Your sea of feelings will hear it and tuck it inside for the next wave.
Gentle with yourself, dear heart. Cups of tea. Music. Savor beauty everywhere you see it. And lean into this moment with slathered grace like shea butter.
Love you so big and so grateful to journey this life with you.
